McDade is a community located to the east of Austin on hwy. 290 a few miles past Elgin. Historically, Mcdade has a rough and tumble history, outlaws and such but most of the permanent settlers were farmers and many of the decendents still live in the area today. McDade has a good water system, a volunteer fire department, a grocery store and its own school district. Ages – pre-K through the eighth grade attend the McDade ISD, while most of the higher grades go to Elgin ISD.
